The United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM) has signed a military support agreement with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
The agreement, known as the Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement (ACSA), was signed on Monday, 8th September 2025, by Brigadier-General George TM Dietrich, US AFRICOM Team Lead, on behalf of the United States, and Deputy Minister of Defence Retired Colonel Muana Brima Massaquoi, on behalf of Sierra Leone.
Brigadier-General Dietrich highlighted that the ACSA would enhance the two countries’ ability to respond jointly to humanitarian crises and natural disasters, enabling faster and more effective exchange of essential supplies and logistical support. The agreement will also support a wide range of activities, including joint training exercises, port calls, and maritime operations.
He added that the agreement ensures Sierra Leone’s military contributions are appropriately recognized through funding, reciprocal exchange, or in-kind support. “The US is proud to stand with Sierra Leone as a partner and friend, and we are committed to a long and successful relationship,” Brigadier-General Dietrich said. He also acknowledged Sierra Leone’s continued participation in regional security initiatives such as OBANGAME EXPRESS.
According to US AFRICOM, the ACSA is a cornerstone of its global security partnerships. To date, the US has signed similar agreements with 132 countries worldwide, including 31 African countries, with Sierra Leone being the latest.
Deputy Minister of Defence Retired Colonel Massaquoi said the signing marked another milestone in strengthening defence cooperation and international partnership between Sierra Leone and the United States. He emphasized that the agreement reflects Sierra Leone’s commitment to closer military collaboration, operational security, and mutual support.
“The agreement allows our two Armed Forces to not only augment logistical capabilities but also reinforce collective security and stability. Despite the geographical distance, this partnership effectively brings our forces closer together,” Retired Colonel Massaquoi said.
