Sierra Leone’s U-17 Girls team has secured another impressive victory at the WAFU-A U-17 Girls Tournament in Liberia, defeating the host nation 3-0 to strengthen their position as strong contenders for the title.

Having already achieved two commanding wins, the Young Queens have demonstrated both individual brilliance and cohesive team play throughout the tournament. They opened their campaign on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, with a 2-1 victory over Senegal at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

In their match against Liberia, Sierra Leone took an early lead in the 4th minute through a beautifully executed penalty from midfield maestro Marian Sankoh, who earned Player of the Match honors for both games. Ruth Bawoh extended Sierra Leone’s advantage in the 17th minute with a precise strike from just outside the 18-yard box, giving them a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Maseray Turay—referred to as Kadiatu Deen in some reports—sealed the victory with a well-placed finish inside the penalty area, showcasing the team’s attacking prowess.

Although Liberia’s Musu Nuah and Yatta Jaliebah showcased impressive dribbling skills and long-range shots, Sierra Leone’s physicality, high pressing, and clinical finishing proved too much for their opponents.

With two wins from two matches and a total of five goals scored, Sierra Leone currently sits atop the group standings with six points, with two more group stage matches remaining. The tournament features a home-and-away format among the three participating teams—Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Liberia.

The Young Queens are set to face Senegal on September 23, 2025, in a crucial away match at the SKD Sports Complex in Liberia. This upcoming encounter promises to be another vital test as Sierra Leone continues its quest for the WAFU-A U-17 Girls title.
