A housewife, Monica Kumba Kaiwandi, appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 on charges of possession of a prohibited drug without authority, contrary to Section 8(c) of the National Drug Control Act, 2008.

The charge was read and explained to the accused, who did not enter a plea, as the matter remains at the preliminary investigation stage.

During proceedings, Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa, leading the prosecution, called Detective Police Constable (DPC) 13682 Umaru J. of the Transnational Crime Unit (TCU) Exhibit Office as the third witness. DPC Umaru testified that on 4 August 2025, he received 165 pink tablets suspected to be Tramadol from DPC 15045 Amara M., attached to the Anti-Drug Syndicate of the TCU. Ten tablets were sent for forensic analysis by Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police Jacob Stevens, while the remaining 155 were tendered in court as Exhibit F1-155.

On behalf of the accused, Defense Counsel J. A. Conteh Esq. applied for bail, noting that Kaiwandi is a Freetown resident with reliable sureties.

He cited Section 23(4) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, assuring the court that the accused would not interfere with prosecution witnesses if granted bail.

The court adjourned the matter to 25 September 2025 for continuation of the trial.
