Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has appointed Manser Sahr Yongai as the Regional Public Relations Official for the Eastern Region ahead of the 2026 Decennial Population and Housing Census.
Yongai, a journalist with Star Line Radio 98.5 in Kenema, is expected to lead public engagement and information propagation for the census in the region.
Yongai is from Kono District with strong ties to Kenema with his mother hailing from Panguma. He has worked and lived in both Kenama and Kailahun Districts positioning him as an ideal candidate for the position.
Stats SL said the appointment is part of its strategy to strengthen communications at the regional level in preparation for the nationwide census.
“The upcoming exercise is critical for providing reliable data to guide Sierra Leone’s development agenda, and effective communication will play a key role in ensuring public participate,” Statistics Sierra Leone noted.
The 2026 census will provide updated figures on population and housing, serving as a reference point for policy planning and development initiatives. The census is expected to start in December 2026 with a pilot census expected this December to test the readiness of staff and systems.
