The ECOFEST Music Festival, Sierra Leone’s largest music event, has been officially postponed for 2025, organizers announced on November 3rd.
The decision was made after an extensive search for an alternative venue failed to identify a location that could meet the event’s safety, capacity, and logistical requirements.
The festival’s traditional home, the National Stadium, remains closed for renovations and is not expected to reopen this year. Despite months of consultations, feasibility studies, and site visits, the ECOFEST team concluded that other potential locations could not reliably accommodate the expected attendance, production scale, and security needs.
In a statement, ECOFEST CEO Mrs. Hawa Turay emphasized that public safety was the paramount concern. “The safety of our fans, artists, and partners has always been non-negotiable,” she said. “We would rather pause than compromise on the quality and integrity that our audience deserves.”
The announcement noted that hosting the festival at smaller or less-equipped venues would have presented significant risks and challenges, including limitations in crowd management, emergency access, and staging infrastructure. The logistical and financial hurdles were also deemed too great to overcome without compromising the fan and performer experience.
Organizers expressed deep regret for the disappointment caused to fans, partners, vendors, and artists. They reaffirmed their commitment to returning in 2026, stating that plans are already underway to secure a “bigger, safer, and more accessible venue” for a future edition.
Further updates will be provided through the festival’s official communication channels in the coming months.
