The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has announced that the Court of Appeal will hold sessions outside the capital for the first time in its history.

The initiative, launched by Chief Justice Komba Kamanda on November 3, 2025, is designed to make justice more accessible and affordable by bringing the court closer to citizens in the provinces.

This effort aims to reduce the geographical and financial barriers that have long prevented many from appealing lower court decisions.

The circuit sittings will commence in two key locations:

Makeni City on Thursday, 27th November 2025, to hear appeals from the North-East and North-Western Regions.

Bo City on Tuesday, 20th January 2026, to hear appeals from the Southern and Eastern Regions.

In a statement, Chief Justice Kamanda reaffirmed that this marks a “new chapter in the Judiciary’s determination to ensure that no citizen is denied access to justice.” He emphasized the institution’s commitment to promoting fairness and the rule of law across the nation.

The Judiciary is calling on all parties with pending appeals in these regions, along with their legal representatives, to cooperate fully to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the provincial court sessions.

The initiative is supported by key stakeholders, including the Office of the Attorney General and the Legal Aid Board.
