The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in the Port Loko Division have stepped up their efforts in the ongoing fight against the trafficking, sale, and consumption of harmful drugs, including Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis sativa, as part of a wider national campaign to curb the spread of narcotics.

In a targeted operation carried out on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, the Division’s Operations Team, led by the Local Unit Commander (LUC), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) A.A. Fambulleh, executed a series of coordinated raids across Port Loko township and nearby communities.

The police operation extended to Gbonkohma Foray and Kagbanthama villages in the Kasseh Chiefdom, where officers uncovered dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis sativa in the possession of Giberilla Kamara.

In a related discovery, young cannabis plants were found being cultivated in the backyard of Hassan Sesay, with credible reports suggesting that a significant number of residents in the area are involved in the illegal cultivation of the drug.

Both suspects Giberilla Kamara and Hassan Sesay were immediately arrested with quantities of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. The village headman, Musa Sesay, was also invited for questioning to assist with ongoing police investigations.

Speaking on the success of the operation, CSP Fambulleh reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown across the entire Port Loko Division. He stressed that the police will not relent in their efforts to disrupt the supply chains and dismantle networks involved in drug trafficking and abuse.

“The Sierra Leone Police remain fully committed to protecting our communities from the devastating effects of narcotic drugs,” CSP Fambulleh stated. “We will continue to pursue those involved in the illegal drug trade and ensure they face the full force of the law.”

He also appealed to the public to support the ongoing campaign by providing timely and credible intelligence that could lead to more arrests and the eradication of drug cultivation and distribution in the region. The Port Loko Police Division continues to intensify operations as part of the national strategy against substance abuse — a growing concern that poses serious threats to public safety, community wellbeing, and youth development.
