Sierra Leone’s Parliament has suspended its 24-hour ultimatum ordering mobile networks Africell and Orange to reinstate their previous low-cost data bundles.

The decision to pause the directive comes after both companies formally appealed the order, citing significant technical challenges. Parliament will now hold a new hearing to address the operators’ concerns.

This development puts on hold a ruling made just days prior. On Friday, November 7th, 2025, Parliament’s Committee on Communication and Innovation had commanded the telecom giants to reverse recent changes to their data plans and restore the popular Le60 weekly bundle by the end of the day.

The initial parliamentary session was sparked by public outcry, with opposition leader Hon. Abdul Kargbo highlighting the impact on students who rely on affordable data for their education. The companies had discontinued the specific Le60 plan, moving customers to slightly more expensive bundles they argued offered faster speeds and better value.

Despite the companies’ defense, the committee had stood firm, with Chairman Hon. Boston Munda issuing the 24-hour reset order. That order is now suspended indefinitely, pending further parliamentary discussion.
