The 2025–2026 MML Women’s Premier League officially kicked off on Saturday 15 November 2025 with an energetic opening ceremony at the Port Loko Mini Stadium, drawing football lovers, dignitaries, and community members in a spirited celebration of women’s football.
The curtain-raiser match ended with Kahunla Queens defeating Patricia Humu FC by 3 goals to 1 in a tightly contested encounter. Patricia Humu FC, who finished 6th last season, showed determination, but the Queens—last season’s 7th-place side—proved the stronger team on the day.
Representing Marampa Mines Limited (MML), the league’s lead sponsor, a company member reaffirmed their commitment to elevating women’s football in Sierra Leone. He highlighted MML’s dedication to supporting women’s empowerment nationwide, noting that their sponsorship underscores a long-term vision for growth and equal opportunities in sports.

Chairperson of the MML Women’s Premier League Board, Madam Mariatu Rachel Pessema Sesay, expressed deep appreciation to MML for their significant investment in the league. She also extended gratitude to SLFA President Babadi Kamara for his continuous efforts in strengthening Sierra Leonean football. Madam Sesay applauded the remarkable international achievements of Sierra Leone’s female players and urged the nation to intensify its support for women’s football so that the success story continues.
Delivering his welcome statement, Mayor Alie Badara Tarawalie, who also serves as Vice President 1 of the Sierra Leone Football Association, commended all stakeholders and fans present for their growing interest in women’s football. He pointed out that football in Sierra Leone has long been a “male-dominated sport,” but assured the public that a new era has begun—one driven by intentional strategies to “empower female footballers in Sierra Leone.”
The opening match and ceremony set a promising tone for the new season, signaling renewed hope, heightened competition, and growing recognition for women in sports across the country.
