Mighty Blackpool Football Club has expressed deep concerns over the circumstances surrounding the medical management of its late midfielder, Bureh Ganso Koroma, whose sudden death has shocked the football community.
In a detailed disclosure following his passing, the club highlighted several issues relating to the player’s injury, treatment, and recovery process earlier this year. According to Blackpool, Koroma sustained a head injury while playing for the National Team in a friendly encounter against his club side. He was immediately taken to the Police Hospital at Kingtom, where officials of the National Team reportedly took full control of his medical care.
The club stated that it made two official attempts to intervene and transfer Koroma to Choithrams Hospital for advanced treatment. The first effort was led by the Director of Football, while the second was initiated by General Manager Sho-Cole.
Both requests, Blackpool alleges, were blocked by National Team officials, who insisted they were solely responsible for overseeing the player’s care. Additionally, a doctor at the Police Hospital declined to issue a referral, saying the facility was capable of managing the head injury.
Hospital records later showed that Koroma had been medically discharged, with indications that the injury had fully healed. Despite this, Mighty Blackpool disclosed that its leadership and supporters continued providing close personal support throughout his recovery. Chairlady Kannie Sesay reportedly delivered meals to the midfielder every day until he left the hospital.
The club also raised concerns about eye complications that developed two months after the discharge. According to the disclosure, this was an issue Koroma had previously experienced the year before. A fan club member, Christian, facilitated the first specialist consultation, and when the problem persisted, Club Chairman Rodney Michael and Fan Club Chairman Pagal engaged a leading eye specialist to explore further examination and possible surgery.
Mighty Blackpool says that medical arrangements for the eye condition were still in progress when news of Koroma’s death reached them a loss the club describes as both heartbreaking and troubling, given the unanswered questions surrounding the earlier handling of his care.
