On Monday, 24 November 2025, the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Sierra Leone Police expanded its campaign against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) by forming a strategic partnership with the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).
The collaboration strengthens cross-sector efforts to tackle SGBV across the country.
A high-level engagement at the Office of the Director of Gender, Cockerill Military Headquarters, brought together senior representatives from both institutions.
The meeting focused on tailored awareness programmes for military personnel and reinforcing knowledge of Sierra Leone’s legal frameworks on SGBV.
The RSLAF Gender Directorate pledged to submit a detailed sensitization schedule to FSU leadership and extend awareness sessions to military recruits at Benguema Military Training Centre and other provincial deployment sites.
Both institutions also committed to joint participation in the upcoming 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
The partnership integrates SGBV sensitization into military training and operations, emphasizing that combating SGBV is both a policing and military responsibility.
It also underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to gender equality, human rights, and a safer environment through collaborative action.
