State House has dismissed growing public and online speculation about the health of President Julius Maada Bio following the circulation of recent photographs that sparked commentary about his physical appearance.
The images, which were widely shared on social media, prompted claims linking perceived changes in the president’s appearance to fatigue or possible health concerns, while others attributed it to lifestyle adjustments amid his demanding schedule. President Bio currently serves as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and maintains an active domestic and international agenda.
Presidential Press Secretary Yusuf Keketoma Sandi rejected the speculation, stating that the 61-year-old president is in good health and fully capable of discharging his official duties. Speaking in an interview with Premier News, Sandi said: “The President is healthy. He is capable of performing his duties and will continue to do so.”
The clarification comes as President Bio continues to engage in public activities, including delivering his New Year’s address in which he declared 2026 a “Year of Action,” commissioning healthcare facilities, and attending religious services.
According to officials, the statement was intended to put an end to unfounded speculation and allow the government to remain focused on national priorities such as economic recovery, human capital development, and Sierra Leone’s leadership role within ECOWAS.
Public reaction to the statement has been mixed, with some welcoming the reassurance while others have called for greater transparency, arguing that openness on such matters would strengthen public trust.
State House has maintained that President Bio remains fit to meet both his domestic responsibilities and regional commitments.

He is sick and I pray that sick will destroy his life as he destroy the life of the people of Sierra Leone.
