The Sierra Leone Premier League Board (PLB) has issued a formal clarification regarding the selection process for its Player of the Month and Coach of the Month awards, revealing a weighted voting system that prioritizes professional analysis over social media popularity.
In a statement released by PLB Media, the board outlined a “structured and transparent” methodology designed to ensure a balanced evaluation for the Leone Rock Premier League’s top performers.
According to the new guidelines, the final decision for both awards is determined by a split voting system. An independent panel of football analysts and professionals holds the majority of the influence, accounting for 90% of the total vote. Fan participation, conducted via the league’s official social media platforms, contributes the remaining 10%.
Player of the Month Selection The board explained that the process begins with a shortlist of nominees based on comprehensive performance data. Criteria for nomination include individual statistics—such as goals, assists, and clean sheets—as well as a player’s overall influence on matches.
The winner is determined by combining the scores from the expert panel and the fan vote.
Manager of the Month Selection Similarly, the Manager of the Month award begins with a shortlist based on team results, including wins, draws, and losses. However, the board noted that the criteria extend beyond the scoreboard; judges also evaluate tactical decisions and the specific challenges a manager faced during the period, such as navigating injuries or difficult fixture lists.
The voting process mirrors that of the player award, with the same 90/10 split between the expert panel and fan votes.
The PLB stated that this comprehensive system is intended to combine fan engagement with rigorous statistical analysis to maintain the integrity of the accolades.
