The Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone (ETU-SL) has received a major boost following the donation of a brand-new 40-seater bus by the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh.
The presentation took place during the institution’s fourth Congregation Ceremony, an event that attracted university officials, government representatives, development partners, traditional leaders, parents, and graduating students.
The donation marks a major milestone in ETU-SL’s journey toward institutional growth and improved service delivery. The new bus is expected to ease transportation challenges faced by both students and staff, particularly during academic activities such as fieldwork, research trips, official engagements, and inter-campus movements.
Speaking during the ceremony, Vice President Jalloh reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening higher education institutions across the country. He stressed on the importance of technical and vocational education in national development, noting that universities like ETU-SL play a critical role in producing skilled manpower needed to drive Sierra Leone’s economic transformation.
“This donation is part of our broader commitment to support institutions that are shaping the future of our young people,” the Vice President stated.
“ETU-SL has shown remarkable progress over the years, and it deserves continued support to expand its impact.”
The leadership of ETU-SL expressed profound appreciation to the Vice President for the timely intervention. In a statement delivered by a senior university official, the administration described the donation as a transformative gesture that will enhance operational efficiency and improve the welfare of the university community.
“This bus will go a long way in addressing our transportation constraints and will significantly support academic and administrative activities,” the official said.
“We are deeply grateful for this show of solidarity and commitment to the growth of our institution.”
Students at the ceremony also welcomed the donation with excitement, describing it as a practical contribution that directly addresses their everyday challenges. Many noted that transportation has been a long-standing issue and expressed hope that the new bus would improve access to academic opportunities beyond the campus.
The Fourth Congregation Ceremony itself was a celebration of academic excellence, with hundreds of students graduating in various disciplines. The event highlighted ETU-SL’s steady progress as one of Sierra Leone’s emerging centers of technical and professional education.
With this donation, ETU-SL continues to strengthen its capacity to deliver quality education and contribute meaningfully to national development, while the gesture by Vice President Juldeh Jalloh stands as a clear demonstration of leadership committed to empowering institutions and uplifting future generations.
