The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., has revealed that the Commission has recovered more than 75 billion old leones, marking a major milestone in Sierra Leone’s ongoing fight against corruption and the protection of public resources.
Speaking during an interview on AYV Television’s Wake Up Sierra Leone, Commissioner Ben Kaifala explained that all recovered funds have been paid directly into the Consolidated Fund, in strict compliance with the country’s financial and legal frameworks. He emphasized that the ACC’s responsibility does not end with the recovery of stolen or misappropriated funds but extends to ensuring that proper systems of accountability are maintained.
According to the ACC Commissioner, the Auditor General’s Office plays a critical oversight role in auditing expenditures from the Consolidated Fund. He noted that any concerns or irregularities identified during such audits are expected to be formally communicated to the ACC for further investigation and action.
“We believe that the Auditor General’s Office will audit any expenditure that is coming from that fund, and if there are issues arising out of that, they will bring them to our attention,” Commissioner Ben Kaifala stated.
He further expressed strong confidence that the monies returned to the state have been put to good and productive use, contributing to national development and the delivery of essential public services. This assurance, he said, is grounded in the collaborative relationship between the ACC and other accountability institutions.
The recovery of over 75 billion old leones reflects the ACC’s strengthened enforcement strategies, proactive investigations, and firm stance against corruption under Ben Kaifala’s leadership. The Commission has continued to send a clear message that corruption has serious consequences and that public funds must be protected in the interest of all Sierra Leoneans.
This achievement not only reinforces public confidence in the Anti-Corruption Commission but also highlights the importance of institutional cooperation in promoting transparency, fiscal discipline, and good governance. As Sierra Leone continues its development journey, the ACC remains committed to ensuring that integrity and accountability remain central to the management of public resources.
