The Paramount Chief of Kafe Chiefdom, PC Masakma Madibie II, has issued a passionate plea to residents to participate in Sierra Leone’s upcoming Population and Housing Census in December 2026.
Addressing a packed meeting in Kamaruku town on January 16th, 2025, the Chief emphasised that accurate data is crucial for allocating development resources and improving the community.
“With the census, we can determine our population size, identify our needs, and attract development projects,” Chief Madibie said. “It’s a chance for Kafe Chiefdom to be counted and get our fair share of resources.”
Kafe Chiefdom, blessed with gold and other minerals, remains one of Sierra Leone’s poorest communities. PC Madibie, elected in 2022 as the first Paramount Chief of the amalgamated Kafe Chiefdom after 118 years, stressed that education, especially for girls, is key to growth.
The Chief highlighted pressing concerns: he has received reports of pregnant women and lactating mothers avoiding clinics, putting lives at risk, and men impregnating school girls, hindering girls’ education. “Impregnating school girls is not only a crime, it’s a curse on our community,” he said. “It denies girls their right to education, perpetuates poverty, and undermines our development.”

He called on Village and Section Chiefs to monitor and report these issues, and ordered arrests of perpetrators. “I urge all sub-chiefs to work with me to ensure our women and girls are protected,” he said.
The community responded positively, with one of the Section Chiefs, Mohamed Tholley, pledging support: “We will work with the Paramount Chief to ensure our community develops. We must prioritise education and health.”

The meeting, attended by health practitioners, teachers, and stakeholders, echoed the Chief’s call to action: participate in the Census, prioritise health, and take education seriously.
