The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security on Monday, 26th January 2026, launched a five-day Technical Start-Up Workshop for the Livestock and Livelihoods Development Project (LLDP) at the Atlantic Lumley Hotel.

The workshop brings together the Project Management Unit (PMU), ministry technical staff, and development partners to finalize implementation arrangements for a project financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), OFID, Heifer International, and the Government of Sierra Leone.

The workshop is aimed at reviewing the LLDP’s objectives, clarifying technical support from the Ministry to the PMU, and aligning project activities with national priorities such as the Feed Salone initiative and the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP). Organizers said the five-day meeting will produce a detailed project document and an implementation roadmap to ensure a smooth transition from planning to field operations.

Speaking on behalf of the LLDP, Project Coordinator Tejan Koroma welcomed the IsDB delegation and highlighted the workshop’s goals. He stressed the importance of close coordination between the Ministry’s technical teams and the PMU to ensure effective delivery of livestock services and livelihood support to rural communities.

“The workshop aims to review the project objectives, discuss Ministry technical support to the PMU, and align activities with Feed Salone and the MTNDP,” Mr. Koroma said, noting that the event should result in a comprehensive project document and seamless implementation.

Representing the IsDB, Sabiu Auwal described the bank as a multilateral development institution committed to promoting social and economic development across member countries. He outlined the Livestock and Livelihoods Fund (LLF), which co-finances initiatives alongside IsDB and other partners including the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the Gates Foundation, the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, and the Qatar Fund for Development. The LLF aims to lift the poorest populations out of poverty across 33 IsDB member countries through investments in agriculture, primary healthcare, and social infrastructure.

Officials say the LLDP will strengthen livestock value chains, improve access to animal health services, and support income-generating activities for smallholder farmers and pastoralists. By aligning with national strategies such as Feed Salone and the MTNDP, the project is expected to contribute to broader food security and economic development goals.

Following the workshop, the PMU will circulate the finalized project document and implementation plan to partners and stakeholders and commence preparatory activities for field rollout. Progress will be closely monitored as the project transitions from planning to implementation.
