The Catholic Diocese of Kenema confirmed that Rev. Fr. James J. J. Jamiru, Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Parish in Pendembu, was attacked by armed men at his parish residence. The confirmation was made by the Bishop of Kenema Diocese, Most Rev. Henry Aruna, who described the incident as ”very worrisome.”
According to the Bishop, Fr. Jamiru sustained external injuries during the attack. He was assessed by medical personnel and was reported to be in stable condition, with injuries that were not life-threatening. He was receiving appropriate medical care.
The incident marked the second attack on a Catholic priest in the Diocese within a short period and occurred nearly six months after the brutal killing of Rev. Fr. Augustine Amadu Dauda in Kenema. The case surrounding Fr. Dauda’s death remained before the courts, and the Diocese continued to seek justice.
The latest attack renewed fears among clergy and the faithful, raising serious concerns about security, safety, and the protection of religious leaders who served communities across the region. Church leaders and members expressed gratitude for Fr. Jamiru’s survival while calling for peace, accountability, and concrete measures to prevent further violence.
Prayers poured in for Fr. Jamiru’s full recovery, for the Diocese of Kenema, and for all priests who carried out their pastoral duties amid growing insecurity.

The attacks on our priests are becoming alarming and measures need to be put in place. What have the Catholic done wrong to warrant attacks on their pastors. Thorough investigations need to be done and appropriate measures taken.
