The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has disbursed the first tranche of its annual subvention to the country’s five Regional Football Associations, with each region receiving US$25,000, equivalent to NLe 567,500.
The payment, made on Friday, January 30, represents 50 percent of the approved annual allocation for each regional association. The move is part of SLFA’s broader efforts to strengthen football administration and development at the grassroots level across the country.
The disbursement follows a recent decision by the Babadi Kamara-led SLFA Executive Committee to increase annual funding for regional football bodies from US$15,000 to US$50,000. According to the association, the increment is intended to ease financial constraints faced by the regions and to enhance the organisation and development of football activities nationwide.
The SLFA reaffirmed its commitment to empowering regional football structures, describing them as a key pillar in the growth and sustainability of football in Sierra Leone. The association further disclosed that the remaining balance of the annual subvention will be released later in the year, in accordance with established financial and administrative guidelines.
The initiative is expected to improve the capacity of regional football associations to organise competitions, support local clubs, and nurture young talents across the country.
