Government pathologist Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma on Tuesday told a court that the death of Sia Fatu Kamara was caused by manual strangulation resulting from a physical assault, according to findings contained in the official autopsy report.
Testifying before the court, Dr. Koroma explained that the medical evidence was consistent with asphyxia caused by external compression of the neck, leading to fatal oxygen deprivation. He outlined key observations made during the post-mortem examination and stated that the injuries identified were indicative of manual strangulation rather than any other cause of death.
The pathologist told the court that the autopsy report documented specific injuries and physiological indicators which, in his professional opinion, supported the conclusion that the deceased’s death resulted from an assault involving pressure to the neck.
Dr. Koroma’s testimony forms part of the prosecution’s case as it seeks to establish the medical basis for the charges currently before the court. His evidence was presented as expert forensic testimony intended to link the cause of death to the alleged actions under investigation.
The trial is ongoing, and the defence is expected to cross-examine expert witnesses and present its own evidence as proceedings continue.
No further details regarding the charges, suspects, or the next hearing date were disclosed in court during the session.
