Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has drawn widespread attention on social media after celebrating his side’s 3–1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers with a post written in Krio on X.
Following the win, Chalobah wrote: “3 points on De Road, now I get egusi for chop na house,” a light-hearted message expressing satisfaction after securing all three points.
Krio is the lingua franca of Sierra Leone, Chalobah’s country of birth. However, the post was widely mistaken by many Nigerian Chelsea supporters as Nigerian Pidgin, leading to online debate and clarification from fans familiar with Sierra Leonean culture.
Chalobah was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, before relocating to England with his family at a young age. Despite growing up in England, he has often acknowledged his Sierra Leonean roots.

At international level, Chalobah follows in the footsteps of his elder brother, Nathaniel Chalobah, by representing England. The Chelsea defender earned his senior England debut in May 2025, featuring in a friendly match against Senegal at the City Ground in Nottingham.
The post has since been praised by many Sierra Leoneans as a proud moment of cultural representation on a global football stage.
