The High Court in Kenema sentenced a farmer to eight years in prison today after he pleaded guilty to the sexual penetration of a seven-year-old child.

Presiding Judge Hon. Justice Abdul Sheriff handed down the sentence to Bobor Alfred, a resident of Jumu Kafabu Village in the Nongowa Chiefdom, following his conviction on charges contrary to the Sexual Offences Act.

The charges, read by Court Registrar Thomas S. Sam, detailed that on September 30, 2025, at Jumu Kafabu village, Alfred engaged in an act of sexual penetration with the minor.

He was arraigned under Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012, as repealed and replaced by Section 4(a)(iii) of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act No. 8 of 2019.

In court, Alfred pleaded guilty to the charge and asked for mercy. His defense counsel, Patrick Kamara of the Legal Aid Board, submitted a plea in mitigation, urging the court to exercise leniency given the defendant’s admission of guilt.

In delivering his judgment, Justice Sheriff acknowledged the guilty plea but emphasized the “gravity of the offense” and the extreme vulnerability of the seven-year-old victim.

Striking a balance between the plea and the severity of the crime, the Judge sentenced Alfred to an eight-year term to be served at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema.
