The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Ali Sawyerr, has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, stating that building “a Freetown that cares for everyone starts in communities that are most vulnerable.”

She made the statement during a visit to the Susan’s Bay informal settlement, where she assessed progress on the Freetown Caring Project.

During the engagement, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr explained that the project is currently focused on financial literacy training, designed to equip caregivers with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage their finances and build stability for their families.

The Mayor also expressed appreciation to WoLEAD, the City Council’s gender and service-delivery partner, for facilitating what she described as an impactful session.

“When we invest in women and caregivers, we strengthen entire communities,” she said.

The Freetown Caring Project forms part of the Council’s broader strategy to promote inclusive development and ensure that residents, particularly those in vulnerable communities, are empowered with the tools needed to thrive.
