An aspiring National Deputy Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC), Sirajin Munirr Rollings-Kamara has called on the party’s leadership to immediately cancel its ongoing lower-level elections, citing what he described as “deeply troubling irregularities.”

Rolling-Kamara said the internal electoral process has been overshadowed by serious flaws, particularly the design of voter slips which, according to him, do not display the names or photographs of candidates but instead carry animal symbols.

“The process is flawed. No serious democratic institution conducts elections in this manner,” Rollings-Kamara noted.

He described the exclusion of candidates’ names and photos as a manipulation tactic aimed at influencing the outcome of the election. The aspiring deputy chairman further alleged that similar irregularities characterised the party’s 2023 lower-level process for parliamentary aspirants.

Rollings-Kamara said he was among those who condemned that process at the time and was assured by party executives that such issues would not recur.

He accused a faction within the party, referred to as “Team A,” of orchestrating the current arrangement. “They are deliberately attempting to deny party members the right to freely choose individuals who actually campaigned to them,” he said.

Rollings-Kamara argued that the APC must demonstrate internal democratic integrity, stressing that reforms should not be limited to national elections alone. He warned that the conduct of the lower-level polls has raised serious doubts about the party’s credibility.

“The All People’s Congress must be better than this,” he added.

In conclusion, the Member of Parliament urged the party’s leadership to halt the process, address the alleged irregularities, and ensure that the elections are conducted in a transparent and credible manner.

Meanwhile, tensions flared over the weekend in Aberdeen, Constituency 131, where supporters of rival camps clashed violently. Authorities were forced to intervene and suspend voting in the constituency to restore calm.
