Police personnel deployed at the Moala Checkpoint in Kenema Division have intercepted and arrested a suspect found in possession of six wraps of dried leaf substance suspected to be kush, the Sierra Leone Police has announced.
The arrest occurred on Monday, 23rd February 2026, during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted by Inspector M. Vandy and his team.
The suspect has been identified as Sallia Sannoh, a resident of Njalla Guara Chiefdom in Kenema Division. During the search, officers discovered the six plastics containing the suspected narcotic substance, which were immediately confiscated as exhibits.
Following the arrest, Sannoh was taken into custody and subsequently handed over to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) for further investigation and necessary action.
The Sierra Leone Police has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related offences through sustained patrols and checkpoint operations across the division, ensuring the safety and security of the public.
The arrest comes amid a broader nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking. Official data updated to 27 January 2026 shows that TOCU has secured 52 convictions in a coordinated offensive against narcotics, including six convictions in the Eastern Region where Kenema is located. The judiciary has imposed significant custodial sentences in major kush trafficking cases, including terms of up to 40 years imprisonment .
Security forces have maintained a zero-tolerance posture towards narcotics, with multiple destruction exercises of seized drugs conducted throughout 2025.
The Transnational Organised Crime Unit, established through the West Africa Coast Initiative, operates as a multi-agency task force strengthening inter-agency collaboration against transnational criminal activities
