A tragic incident occurred at a hospital in the Grassfield area of Freetown, reportedly resulting in the death of a man following an operation allegedly performed by individuals posing as medical practitioners.
According to the story shared on social media by Journalist Magdalene Sugerlene Konneh, the hospital is located behind Life Care Hospital in the Wesleyan Grassfield area and was formerly owned by a doctor identified as Dr. Conteh, who passed away several years ago.
Sources indicate that two individuals who previously worked with Dr. Conteh, but have no medical qualifications, are now allegedly operating the facility as self-proclaimed doctors.
The victim, identified as Sahr, a graduate in electrical engineering and a part-time employee with EDSA, reportedly fell ill while traveling to the provinces with a friend to attend to the friend’s sick mother. Sahr began experiencing severe stomach pain and was initially taken to Rokupor Government Hospital in Freetown before being transferred to Connaught Hospital due to the worsening of his condition.
While waiting to be transported to Connaught Hospital, Sahr and his friend reportedly encountered the two men posing as doctors. The pair allegedly convinced them to seek treatment at their hospital, claiming they could handle the situation. Reports indicate that no proper medical examination was conducted before the individuals proceeded with an operation, claiming Sahr had appendicitis.
The operation reportedly lasted eight hours without improvement, and the family was asked to pay eight thousand leones, with an initial payment of six thousand leones. Eventually, Sahr was taken to Connaught Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The family of the deceased is reportedly appealing for justice, while the two alleged perpetrators are currently on the run.
