The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has launched a series of engagements with female traders in the Central Business District as part of preparations to mark International Women’s Day on March 8, 2026.

The initiative began with a special meeting along Malama Thomas Street on Monday, February 23, focusing on celebrating and supporting women in business while providing a platform for traders to share challenges they face in sustaining their livelihoods.

During the event, Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura highlighted the theme “Give to Gain,” stressing that empowering women through inclusive taxation and business support is essential for strengthening families, communities, and driving national development.

“Women’s participation in taxation and commerce is a cornerstone of economic growth,” Mrs. Bangura said.

She further noted that by engaging female traders, the NRA aims to enhance tax compliance and financial inclusion, ensuring that women’s businesses are supported and their economic impact maximized.

The engagement highlights women’s vital role in taxation and economic growth. The Commissioner General’s focus on gender-responsive approaches aligns with broader regional efforts, as she also serves as Vice President of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) Women in Tax Network (AWITN), where she has previously called for African tax leaders to prioritize gender-responsive tax policies and empower women economically.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to partnership and recognition of the critical economic contributions made by women. The engagement marks the beginning of a series of activities leading up to International Women’s Day on March 8.
