Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh shared a special Ramadan iftar with staff at Koidu Government Hospital in Kono District on Saturday, March 14th, 2026 a gathering made deeply personal for the Vice President, who was born at the very facility.

“This iftar was particularly meaningful because I spent it at the Koidu Government Hospital, the very hospital where I was born,” Dr. Jalloh told staff, expressing gratitude for their dedication to healthcare and nation-building.

Breaking bread with doctors, nurses, and support staff, the Vice President highlighted the essential role they play in nurturing Sierra Leone’s future. He also praised the hospital leadership for operational progress, noting inspiring achievements that reflect hope and advancement in the health sector.

 

District Medical Officer Dr. Mohamed Gbessay Sheku shared updates on the hospital’s Special Care Unit for premature and critically ill children, the addition of 52 midwives, and the posting of 13 medical officers to strengthen services. Plans for infrastructure expansion including a 100-bed pediatric ward and accommodation for nurses signal a growing commitment to transforming Koidu Hospital into a regional referral center.

The evening left a lasting impression on both the Vice President and staff, blending personal history with public service and celebrating the human stories behind Sierra Leone’s healthcare progress.
