The Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation officially launched the National WASH Sector Strategic Plan (2026–2035) on Saturday, March 14th, at the De-Wizard Conference Hall in Bo. The 10-year roadmap aims to transform water, sanitation, and hygiene services across Sierra Leone.
The launch brought together government officials, local councils, development partners, and civil society organizations, highlighting a shared commitment to expanding safe water access and improving sanitation infrastructure nationwide.
In her keynote address, Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Dr. Sao-Kpato Isatta Hannah Macarthy described the plan as a collective national pledge to secure water resources and raise living standards for all citizens.
Hon. Charles Abdulai, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, praised the plan’s emphasis on community-led water management, while Victor Hindowa of Bo District Council stressed the need to prioritize rural populations and strengthen disease prevention through reliable water infrastructure.
James Rialc, Country Director for GOAL Sierra Leone, reaffirmed the NGO sector’s support, emphasizing that achieving universal WASH coverage requires close cooperation among government, development partners, and local communities.
Deputy Minister Francis Alpha Kallon detailed the consultative process behind the plan and said it will serve as a guiding framework for sector-wide implementation over the next decade, aiming to ensure universal access to safe water, improved sanitation, and healthier, more productive lives.
