Proceedings in the ongoing trial of Lansana Dumbuya, Secretary General of the All People’s Congress (APC), have been adjourned to allow the defence to file a no-case submission.

Dumbuya, a 54-year-old politician and legal practitioner, is standing trial before Principal Magistrate Briama Jah at Court No. 1 on Pademba Road in Freetown. He is facing three charges: incitement contrary to law, insulting language under Section 2 of the Public Order Act of 1965, and behaving in an insulting manner contrary to Section 12(a) of the same Act as amended in 1973.

The charges stem from an incident alleged to have occurred on January 31, 2026, at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium. Prosecutors claim that Dumbuya made statements inciting supporters to chant that President Julius Maada Bio was a thief. He is also accused of directing insulting language at the Regional Operations Officer for Freetown East, Francis Momodu Tommy, and encouraging further chants deemed offensive in a public setting.

During the latest hearing, lead defence counsel Africanus Sesay successfully applied for an adjournment to prepare and present a no-case submission, arguing that the prosecution has not established sufficient evidence to warrant a defence.

The prosecution did not oppose the application. In his ruling, Magistrate Jah granted the request, noting the lack of objection and the need for fairness in proceedings.

The case has been adjourned to April 2, 2026, for continuation. Bail granted to the accused remains in effect.

Other members of the defence team include Marine Spain, B. Koroma, R.S. Bangura, and A. Madie.
