The Government of Sierra Leone has announced an increase in fuel prices, citing rising global market pressures.
In a press release issued on 2nd April 2026, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education stated that the adjustment reflects ongoing changes in international fuel prices, which continue to impact domestic markets.
Under the new arrangement, fuel prices have been set at NLe35 per litre for petrol and NLe40 per litre for diesel, effective from 2nd to 15th April 2026.
To mitigate the impact of the increment, the Government announced that it will subsidize NLe1.10 per litre on petrol and NLe4.26 per litre on diesel during the period under review.
Government noted that, based on the prevailing pricing formula, pump prices could have risen higher to NLe36.10 per litre for petrol and NLe44.26 per litre for diesel, but indicated that measures have been taken to moderate the increase.
Authorities acknowledged that fuel price adjustments have wide-ranging effects on transportation, electricity, and the general cost of living, placing additional pressure on households and businesses.
The Government further disclosed that it is engaging with key stakeholders, including petroleum companies and development partners, to manage the situation and explore possible interventions if global conditions persist.
It also assured the public of continued efforts to ensure the availability of fuel across the country, while monitoring developments in the global market.
