The Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) has announced that its nationwide Civic Day Series will be held in Karene District from April 13 to 14, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to promote citizen engagement in governance.

Speaking at the government’s weekly press conference in Freetown on Tuesday, Strategic Communications Adviser Mohamed Jaward Nyallay said the initiative is designed to bring government closer to the people by providing a platform for direct interaction between citizens and public officials.

Nyallay stated that the programme has already been successfully conducted in several districts, including Bombali, Port Loko, Kambia, Moyamba, Kenema, Bo, Kono, and Falaba. He added that after Karene, the series will continue to Kailahun, Bonthe, and Pujehun.

He described the Civic Day Series as a key commitment by President Julius Maada Bio’s administration to strengthen transparency and accountability. According to him, thousands of citizens have participated in previous engagements, raising questions and seeking clarifications on government policies and services.

Nyallay urged residents of Karene District to actively participate in the upcoming event to ensure their voices are heard and their concerns addressed directly by government representatives.
