The Africa Young Voices (AYV) media organisation has appointed Umaru Fofana as its new Consultant Managing Director, the company announced today.

Fofana assumes office immediately and will oversee day‑to‑day operations, with a mandate to drive strategic growth, improve efficiency, and strengthen AYV’s position in Sierra Leone’s media landscape.

AYV Chief Executive Officer Ambassador Anthony Navo Jr. described the appointment as timely, noting that the organisation is intensifying efforts to expand its reach, improve content quality, and embrace innovation across platforms. Fofana will be responsible for sharpening editorial direction, streamlining workflows, and implementing initiatives to boost audience engagement across television, radio, and digital channels.

Fofana brings extensive experience in national and international journalism, including serving as President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and working as a BBC correspondent. AYV officials say his credentials equip him with the editorial judgment, professional networks, and leadership skills needed to guide the organisation through a period of transformation.

Media observers view the appointment as a significant step toward repositioning AYV for greater impact. Under Fofana’s leadership, the organisation plans to pursue editorial renewal and operational reforms aimed at producing more compelling, audience‑focused journalism. Priorities include improving content standards, adopting new production and distribution technologies, and strengthening AYV’s competitive standing in Sierra Leone’s media sector.

With Umaru Fofana now in place, AYV is set to accelerate initiatives that enhance storytelling and audience engagement, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to professional leadership and raising media standards nationwide.
