The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) in Moyamba District, in collaboration with the Village-Based Advisory (VBA) Project, has commenced a three-day intensive Training of Trainers (ToT) aimed at strengthening the capacity of key agricultural personnel across the district.

The training, which runs from April 9 to April 11, 2026, is being held at the MAFS Conference Hall in Moyamba. It has brought together VBA network coordinators, Block Extension Supervisors, frontline extension workers, and Subject Matter Specialists.

The initiative is designed to equip participants with enhanced knowledge and practical skills to better support farmers and improve agricultural productivity. Participants include five VBA network coordinators, all Block Extension Supervisors, frontline extension workers, and Subject Matter Specialists.

The training focuses on three major staple crops critical to food security and livelihoods in the district—maize, cowpea, and rice. Participants are being trained in modern farming techniques, crop management practices, and effective farmer engagement strategies.

Sessions are being facilitated by the District Crops Officer, Mr. Bah, and the District Agriculture Officer, Mr. Sesay, both of whom emphasized the importance of capacity building in achieving sustainable agricultural development.

According to Alfred Sesay, Block Extension Supervisor for Block Two in Moyamba District, the training marks a significant step toward improving service delivery to farmers and increasing crop yields across communities.

He added that a comprehensive update on the training outcomes and key recommendations will be released on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at the close of the program.

The initiative reflects MAFS’s continued commitment to strengthening extension services and equipping farmers with the knowledge needed to boost productivity and ensure food security in Sierra Leone.
