A high-level delegation of moral guarantors overseeing the Agreement for National Unity (ANU) has held separate engagements with government officials and the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC), as part of efforts to assess progress and address lingering governance concerns.

The delegation was led by former Gambian Vice-President Fatoumata Tambajang and included key international and regional stakeholders such as Barrie Freeman, Dr. Arjoon Suddhoo of the Commonwealth Secretariat, the ECOWAS Ambassador to Sierra Leone, the United Nations Resident Coordinator, and the Chairman of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion.

During discussions with Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh, the government presented an update on the execution of commitments under the ANU, particularly those stemming from the Tripartite Committee Report established under Resolution 3 of the agreement. The meeting focused on reviewing progress made so far, as well as outlining timelines for addressing pending issues.

The guarantors underscored the need for sustained momentum in implementing agreed reforms and strengthening institutional mechanisms to ensure effective follow-through.

In a separate engagement with APC leadership, attention shifted to concerns raised by the opposition regarding governance practices, electoral processes, and democratic accountability. The APC reiterated its dissatisfaction with the functioning of the Tripartite Steering Committee, describing it as ineffective.

The opposition also reaffirmed its stance to continue a boycott of certain governance processes at the local council level, pending what it described as meaningful and credible actions to resolve outstanding disputes.

APC representatives called for practical measures to rebuild public trust and restore normal governance operations, while the guarantor team emphasized dialogue and cooperation as essential tools for achieving lasting political stability.

The ongoing consultations form part of broader efforts by regional and international partners to support Sierra Leone’s democratic processes and ensure the full implementation of the Agreement for National Unity.
