Senior members of the Sierra Leone 1 Party (SLPP), led by National Chairman Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, have paid a courtesy visit to the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Zhao Jing, in a move aimed at reinforcing longstanding bilateral relations.
The delegation, which included the Deputy National Chairman and the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, described the visit as a reciprocation of the Ambassador’s recent engagement with the party.
During discussions, Chairman Songa conveyed appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its sustained support to Sierra Leone, particularly under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio. He noted that Chinese assistance has played a significant role in advancing key sectors such as healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Highlighting areas of ongoing cooperation, Songa pointed to China’s technical support to the 34 Military Hospital, the delivery of medical services in rural communities, and continued investments in the iron ore sector in Tonkolili District. He also referenced emergency rice aid aimed at boosting national food security, as well as scholarship opportunities for Sierra Leoneans pursuing studies in China.
The SLPP Chairman further called for sustained support to the Bio-led administration and urged deeper collaboration between the Sierra Leone People’s Party and the Chinese Communist Party. Both sides engaged in discussions on expanding cooperation across party and government levels.
In his remarks, Ambassador Zhao welcomed the visit and underscored the significance of over five decades of diplomatic relations between China and Sierra Leone. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, particularly through enhanced cooperation between the two ruling parties.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing confidence in the continued growth of the partnership, describing China as a trusted and valued ally in Sierra Leone’s development journey.
