The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has announced that its elected officials will return to Parliament and all Local Councils, citing commitments contained in the recent communiqué issued by the International Moral Guarantors following their joint assessment mission to Sierra Leone.
In a press statement, the party said the decision was taken in good faith and in line with agreed outcomes aimed at advancing the implementation of the Agreement for National Unity and promoting inclusive governance.
According to the APC, its Members of Parliament will resume attendance at the next parliamentary sitting, while all party representatives serving in Local Councils have been instructed to immediately return to their official duties.
The party described the move as a demonstration of its willingness to honour the roadmap set out by the International Moral Guarantors, particularly calls for the opposition to end its boycott and fully re-engage in national governance structures.
At the same time, the APC urged the Government of Sierra Leone to show equal commitment by taking urgent steps to implement other aspects of the communiqué.
Among its key demands, the party called on the government to table both the Agreement for National Unity and the Tripartite Committee Report before Parliament, arguing that doing so would enhance transparency, legitimacy and national ownership of the implementation process.
The APC also called for the immediate establishment of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, which it said is necessary to review the electoral cycle, improve preparedness and guide reforms ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to the party, the communiqué makes clear that these actions are part of a structured process designed to rebuild trust, strengthen democratic institutions and promote broader political participation.
While reaffirming its commitment to constructive engagement, accountability and credible electoral reforms, the APC stressed that cooperation must be mutual and that the long-term success of the process depends on timely implementation of all agreed measures.
The party further urged government, Parliament and oversight institutions to act with urgency and sincerity in carrying out their respective responsibilities.
The announcement marks a significant political development, as the return of APC lawmakers and councillors is expected to restore full opposition participation in national and local governance processes.
