Sierra Leone is reportedly close to appointing a new head coach for its national football team, with Belgian Tom Saintfiet identified as a front runner for the position, according to journalist Sahr Morris Jr.

The 53-year-old Saintfiet has extensive experience in African football. His coaching résumé includes stints with several national teams on the continent: Namibia, Zimbabwe, Togo, Gambia, and Mali.

Saintfiet was named CAF Coach of the Year in 2022. His most recent tenure with Gambia saw the national team qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, drawing attention to his track record with emerging football nations.

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has not yet issued an official statement confirming an appointment. The head coach position became a focus following recent changes in the national team setup.

If appointed, Saintfiet would take charge of the Leone Stars as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures and qualification campaigns.

As of now, no official announcement has been made by the SLFA regarding the new head coach.
