Dr. Samura Kamara, the All People’s Congress (APC) presidential candidate in the 2018 and 2023 elections has declared that he has entrusted the pursuit of electoral justice in Sierra Leone to divine intervention from God, emphasizing faith and moral courage over conventional political maneuvering.

In a reflective national address delivered on his birthday, May 7, 2026, the former All People’s Congress (APC) presidential candidate addressed his recent absence from the public eye, reassuring his supporters that his commitment to correcting the disputed June 2023 elections remains unwavering.

For months, Dr. Kamara’s low profile had fueled widespread speculation. Amidst internal party turmoil and shifting political alliances, many supporters openly wondered if the two-time presidential contender had quietly retreated from the political battlefield or conceded the fight.

Dr. Kamara directly addressed these concerns, revealing that his silence was a deliberate and painful period of reflection.

“With deep appreciation and abiding respect, I have been silent for a time—deliberately, painfully, and at great personal cost,” Dr. Kamara stated. “Let me be clear: I have not [abandoned you]. I have never abandoned you, and I have never traded your votes or your will for anyone’s favor. What I have done is to place our cause, Salone, before God Almighty, through whom all things are possible.”

Framing the push for electoral justice not merely as a political grievance but as a profound moral imperative, Dr. Kamara characterized the June 24, 2023, elections as a “landmark wound” that has caused deep emotional and psychological distress across Sierra Leone.

He maintained that the country’s democratic legitimacy is critically compromised, pointing out three lingering questions that trouble the national conscience: Did my vote count?; Do elections still matter in Sierra Leone?; When and how will God restore our hope, our dignity, and our humanity?

Kamara insisted that the demand for justice is far larger than the agenda of any single political party. He called for the open criminalization and complete elimination of election fraud, stating that a system where the ruling party acts as “the referee, the player, and the scorekeeper all at once” is a recipe for political dominance that ultimately ends in grief.\

Dr. Kamara’s reliance on faith and a “call to conscience” comes at a time when he is increasingly operating outside the formal machinery of the APC.

Over the past two years, the party’s leadership has systematically distanced itself from him. In late 2024, the APC officially invoked its constitution to remove him from his position as National Leader. Subsequently, he was replaced as the party’s Chief Negotiator on the Tripartite Committee by Dr. Kaifala Marah, and he has faced severe public criticism from party heavyweights, including former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

By explicitly ruling himself out of the 2028 presidential race in the same address, Dr. Kamara appears to be transcending traditional partisan battles, repositioning himself as a moral voice for aggrieved voters.

Despite the deep frustrations regarding the 2023 electoral outcome and his alienation within his own party, Dr. Kamara urged his supporters to root their demands in peaceful conviction rather than chaos.

“We didn’t fight for the ballot so that it could become a battlefield,” he reminded citizens, urging them to prioritize truth and the restoration of democracy over regional, tribal, or selfish calculations.

He concluded his address with a prayerful outlook for the nation’s future: “May God bless Sierra Leone, and may He bless us with the courage to acknowledge our wrongs and shortcomings, and the resolve to do what is right, even when it is hard.”
