The Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) has withdrawn a letter issued on 7th May 2026 by the Head of Immigration at Freetown International Airport, reaffirming that there are no changes to entry procedures for non-nationals arriving in the country.
In a new circular dated 8th May 2026 and addressed to all airlines operating at the airport, immigration authorities clarified that existing visa policies remain in effect, including visa-free entry and visa-on-arrival arrangements.
The circular, signed by Dr Moses Tiffa Bala Esq., emphasised that passengers who require visas must continue to obtain them in line with current regulations.
For departing passengers, airlines have been instructed to ensure that non-national residents present a valid Biometric Residence Permit before check-in and boarding. In the absence of this permit, a valid visa must be provided.
According to the department, this verification measure is intended to minimise delays, ensure regulatory compliance, and facilitate smoother airport operations.
The latest directive supersedes the earlier communication issued on 7th May.
Airlines affected by the notice include ASky Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Turkish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Peace, Air Sierra Leone, Kenya Airways, and other operators serving the route.
