Dr. Fatima Bio disclosed that the agreement was signed during a meeting hosted at State House, where officials from TİKA formally committed to supporting the construction of the proposed medical facility.

“This morning, on Monday, May 11, 2026, I hosted the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) at State House for the official signing of the protocol for the construction of a state-of-the-art Emine Erdogan Mother and Child Hospital in Bo City,” Dr. Fatima Bio stated.
Reflecting on her engagement with the Turkish First Lady, Dr. Bio said she had assured Sierra Leoneans that the discussions would produce meaningful development results for the country.
“If we reflect on our meeting on the sidelines of the Zero Waste Forum in Istanbul, Türkiye, with Her Excellency Emine Erdogan, First Lady of the Republic of Türkiye, I pledged to the people of Sierra Leone that our discussions would yield tangible benefits for our country. Today marks the fulfillment of that commitment,” she stated.

The planned hospital is expected to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services in the southern region and improve access to specialized healthcare for women and children.
Dr. Fatima Bio reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for women and girls across Sierra Leone, saying her efforts would continue throughout her period of public service.
“As a mother of this nation, and for as long as I have the opportunity to advocate for and champion the empowerment and protection of women and girls, my work will not end here,” she stated.

She further noted that she remains committed to supporting Sierra Leoneans and preserving the legacy of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s administration.
The First Lady also expressed appreciation to Her Excellency Emine Erdogan, TİKA officials, the Mayor of Bo, the Chairman of the Bo District Council, the Resident Minister of the South, and others who contributed to the realization of the agreement.
In her statement, Dr. Fatima Bio commended President Julius Maada Bio for what she described as the opportunity to serve the country and urged citizens to continue supporting the government.

“To all Sierra Leoneans, I urge you to continue placing your trust in this administration. Under the leadership of President Bio, Sierra Leone is destined for greatness,” she said.
The Government of Sierra Leone has in recent years expanded cooperation with Türkiye in areas including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social development.
