A total of 2,626 Sierra Leonean Hajj pilgrims have safely arrived in Mina, approximately 8 kilometers east of Makkah, ahead of the crucial Day of Arafah rituals scheduled for Tuesday, 26 May 2026.

According to officials of the Presidential Taskforce on Hajj, the contingent comprises 1,800 pilgrims from the diaspora and 826 home-based pilgrims from Sierra Leone. The first group of pilgrims has already departed Mina for Arafat, while the remaining buses are expected to transport the rest of the pilgrims throughout Monday night.

Speaking during a live Facebook broadcast, Dr. Chernor Ibrahim Bah, Head of Rituals for the Presidential Taskforce on Hajj, stressed the spiritual importance of Arafat in the Hajj pilgrimage.

”Hajj is Arafat,” Dr. Bah stated, emphasizing that standing at Arafat is the most essential pillar of the pilgrimage and that missing it renders the Hajj incomplete.

He confirmed that all 2,626 Sierra Leonean pilgrims are expected to complete their movement to Arafat before dawn on Tuesday to participate in the sacred gathering on the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah 1447.

Dr. Bah further reminded Muslims worldwide about the significance of the Day of Arafah, noting that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described it as the day on which Allah frees more people from Hellfire than on any other day.

He encouraged pilgrims to dedicate the occasion to sincere repentance, prayers, and seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.

For Muslims not performing Hajj, Dr. Bah highlighted that fasting on the Day of Arafah remains a highly recommended Sunnah, citing the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who said fasting on that day expiates the minor sins of the previous year and the coming year.

The Day of Arafah marks the climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage and draws millions of Muslims from around the world to the plains of Arafat in one of Islam’s most sacred gatherings.
