Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is in Freetown, where he held a high-level diplomatic meeting with President Julius Maada Bio at State House.

Jonathan visited Sierra Leone in his capacity as Special Envoy of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; Special Envoy to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission; and Chairman of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF).

The visit underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and address pressing challenges within the West African sub-region.

Jonathan described the meeting as “fruitful,” noting the warm reception and conviviality extended by the Sierra Leonean Presidency. Taking to social media, the former Nigerian leader expressed gratitude to President Bio for the hospitality accorded to his delegation.

“Our discussions focused on issues of mutual interest and matters relating to peace, stability, democratic governance, and regional cooperation within the West African sub-region,” Jonathan stated.

As West Africa continues to navigate a complex political landscape marked by recent political transitions and security challenges, the involvement of the West African Elders Forum and the ECOWAS Commission remains pivotal.
