The Ministry of Works has strongly refuted allegations made in a recent press release by a group identified as a “Health Alert Organisation,” which blamed the Ministry for the recent building collapse at Kissy Road.
In an official response, the Ministry described the claims as misleading and factually incorrect, emphasising that the issuance of building permits does not fall under its mandate. The Ministry clarified that since the appointment of Minister Denis Sandy in August 2023, it has not issued any building permits to contractors for housing or construction projects.
The unfortunate incident, which occurred on Tuesday, 25th May 2026, prompted an immediate response from the Minister and his team. Upon arrival at the scene, the Minister commended the swift efforts of security personnel and emergency responders. He also engaged members of the press, providing updates and addressing public concerns.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to upholding standard engineering protocols and procedures, noting that it continues to carry out robust inspections within its operational mandate.
Furthermore, the Ministry criticised the Health Alert Organisation, describing it as “notorious for spreading misinformation about the government.” It urged the public to disregard what it termed as baseless claims and “diatribe.”
In a direct message to the public, the Ministry emphasised in Krio: “Nor to Ministry of Works dae issue building permits. Make the so-called Health Alert go research well or fen oda tin for do.”
The Ministry concluded by assuring the public of its continued dedication to professionalism, transparency, and the safety of infrastructure development across the country.
