The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), in partnership with FIFA, on Monday, June 1, 2026, commenced a three-day stakeholder engagement session for the presentation of the country report on the FIFA Amateur Football Environment Analysis at the SLFA Secretariat in Freetown.
The FIFA Amateur Football Environment Analysis is a global assessment initiative designed to map, structure, and guide future support for non-elite football. The programme focuses on key areas including management and resources, competitions, clubs, education, futsal, beach soccer, mini-football, development programmes, and football in schools, with the overall goal of increasing participation and growing the game for all.
On Day 2, June 2, the FIFA team will present findings of the report to the SLFA Executive Committee and secretariat staff. On Day 3, June 3, the session will be expanded to include broader football stakeholders involved in grassroots and amateur football development. These include representatives from the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education (MBSSE), clubs and academies, schools, universities, private organisations, and regional associations.
FIFA is represented at the engagement by Regional Technical Consultant Ali Mwebe and Serme Ezekiel Letsoaka, who are leading discussions and interactive sessions with key stakeholders over the three-day period.
On the opening day, the FIFA delegation held engagements with SLFA General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, Deputy General Secretary Ishmail Saidu Kanu Esq., Technical Director John Edward Keister, and heads of departments at the Secretariat. Discussions focused on establishing key priorities and the framework guiding the stakeholder engagement programme.
The exercise underscores the commitment of FIFA and SLFA to strengthening grassroots and amateur football structures in Sierra Leone, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and increased participation at all levels of the game.
