The Freetown City Council has begun rolling out a new block-based waste management system, starting with Block 1, which covers the corridor from Orugu Bridge to PMB Old Wharf Junction.
The initiative, introduced under the “Dorti Mus Go” campaign, is aimed at improving service delivery by defining clearer operational boundaries, strengthening accountability, and enhancing waste collection across the city.
Block 1 covers a wide range of neighbourhoods, streets, markets, institutions, and landmarks. The council’s published list outlines specific communities and locations within the designated area to help residents determine their inclusion in the new system.
According to the council, the detailed breakdown is intended to reduce confusion over collection schedules and responsibilities by replacing broad neighbourhood classifications with clearly identified service points.
The Block 1 rollout marks the first phase of a wider citywide restructuring of waste management services. The system is expected to be expanded across additional wards in subsequent phases.
The council says the effectiveness of the programme will depend on consistent service delivery by contractors, resident cooperation, and ongoing monitoring and supervision.
