Compagnie Sahélienne d’Entreprises (CSE) Construction Company has commenced urgent cleaning and desilting operations along the Hillside Bypass Road near Eastern Street in response to growing public concerns over clogged drainage systems in the area.
The intervention follows recent media reports highlighting the deteriorating condition of the gutters and the challenges faced by residents and road users as a result of blocked drainage channels.
Community members had complained that the situation led to stagnant water, foul odors, and difficulties for pedestrians, particularly schoolchildren who regularly use the route.
In response to the concerns raised, CSE mobilized heavy-duty trucks, excavators, and other equipment to begin clearing accumulated garbage, silt, and debris obstructing the drainage system.
Site inspections showed workers and machinery actively engaged in removing waste materials from the gutters as part of efforts to restore proper water flow and improve environmental sanitation within the community.
Residents welcomed the commencement of the cleanup exercise, describing it as a timely intervention after days of inconvenience caused by the blocked drains. Many expressed hope that the operation would help reduce flooding risks and improve public health conditions in the area.
While commending the ongoing work, community members also called for regular maintenance of the drainage infrastructure to prevent future blockages, particularly during the rainy season when drainage systems are more vulnerable to overflow and flooding.
The desilting exercise is expected to continue until the entire affected stretch of the drainage network has been cleared and restored to full functionality.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to improve urban sanitation, enhance drainage efficiency, and address environmental concerns affecting residents along the Hillside Bypass corridor.
