The sod has been officially turned for the construction of a new Community Health Centre in Manowa, a development local leaders and residents say will significantly improve access to healthcare across the chiefdom and surrounding communities.
The project, funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and endorsed by the Ministry of Health, is expected to be completed within five months. It is being positioned as a key intervention to address long-standing gaps in rural healthcare delivery.
The ceremony, led by the Deputy Minister of Health, Prof. Charles Senessie, underscored not only the physical construction of the facility but also the broader impact it is expected to have on communities that currently travel long distances to access basic medical services.
Community members described the project as a practical solution that will reduce travel time, lower healthcare costs, and improve access to preventive services.
Local residents and traditional leaders at the event highlighted several expected benefits, including reduced travel burdens for pregnant women and children, faster access to treatment for common illnesses, and improved outreach for vaccination campaigns, health education, and disease surveillance.
Village health volunteers also noted that a permanent facility would help improve staff retention by providing a more stable and better-equipped working environment for health workers.
Government officials said the partnership demonstrates effective collaboration between faith-based organisations and the state in delivering essential services. The Ministry of Health added that the facility will be integrated into the district referral system to ensure continuity of care.
Construction is scheduled to be completed within five months, after which attention will shift to staffing, equipping, and operational integration of the centre into the local health network.
Once operational, officials and community stakeholders expect the facility to contribute to improved maternal and child health outcomes and strengthen the overall public health response in the area.
For residents of Manowa and surrounding communities, the new centre represents a significant step toward accessible, reliable, and community-based healthcare delivery.
