Residents and farmers in Yiraia-Moria Village and surrounding communities in Falaba District have expressed concern over the destruction of farmlands and crops allegedly caused by cattle belonging to herders operating within the area. The situation, they say, has resulted in significant economic losses for farming families who depend heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods.

According to community members, repeated complaints have been made to traditional authorities and other stakeholders, but the matter remains unresolved, increasing frustration among affected residents.

The conflict is said to extend beyond Moria Village, with surrounding communities such as Yiraia, Konkoya, and Sokurala also reporting incidents of crop and farmland destruction.

Farmers in the affected communities say the continued loss of crops threatens food security and household incomes, especially during the farming season. They have called on relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent further damage and restore confidence among residents.

Concerns have also been raised over what community members describe as delays by district and chiefdom authorities in addressing the issue. Residents warn that prolonged inaction could heighten tensions between farmers and cattle owners and potentially threaten peace and social cohesion in the area.

Some residents have cautioned against allowing the dispute to escalate, noting that unresolved communal conflicts in other parts of the country have disrupted economic activities, education, and community relations.

Community leaders and residents are therefore appealing to district authorities, chiefdom leadership, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate dialogue between farmers and cattle owners to reach a peaceful and lasting solution.

They stressed that protecting agricultural livelihoods while safeguarding the interests of livestock owners is essential to maintaining peace and stability within the affected communities.

The rising tensions have once again highlighted the urgent need for conflict resolution and early intervention to stop local disagreements from escalating into wider insecurity.
