The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has confirmed that Lin Zhang, a Chinese national whose work permit was withdrawn following allegations of assault against a Sierra Leonean factory worker, has left Sierra Leone.

According to a public notice issued by the Ministry, senior officials conducted a follow-up exercise to verify compliance with directives issued after the incident involving Alagassimu Barrie, a worker at KK Company in Six Mile, Western Area Rural District.

The Ministry stated that KK Company provided documentary evidence, including travel records, confirming that Lin Zhang had departed the country.

The company further informed the Ministry that Lin Zhang has been permanently banned from returning to Sierra Leone in connection with its operations. It also reported that disciplinary action has been taken against a local security guard and another worker allegedly involved in the incident.

Labour and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) officials also conducted an inspection of KK Company’s operations, after which an Improvement Notice was issued to address identified concerns within a specified timeframe.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting workers’ rights and said it will continue monitoring compliance with labour and workplace safety regulations in Sierra Leone.
